Raised in Osaka, Japan, Akiko Tsuruga began studying the organ at the age of three. While living and playing in Osaka, she had many opportunities to perform with world- renowned jazz musicians from the United States, like Frank Wess, Jimmy Cobb, Grady Tate for instance. Her reputation ultimately drew attention of Lou Donaldson as he chose her in 2006 as his quartet’s organist. Organ legend Dr. Lonnie Smith became an important mentor to Akiko, and she considers him her greatest influence. She flourished and continued to be a constant draw on the NY jazz scene. Akiko has ten albums as a leader to her credit. Akiko’s newest excitement is a this very trio project, and their first recording, “Equal Time” was released in June 2019. In 1974, Jeff Hamilton got his first big break playing with the New Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. He then joined Lionel Hampton's Band until 1975 when he, along with bassist John Clayton, became a member of the Monty Alexander Trio. In 1977 he joined Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd, with whom he made several recordings. In 1978, he was offered the position vacated by Shelly Manne in the L.A.4 with Ray Brown, Bud Shank and Laurindo Almeida. Jeff has performed and / or recorded with Ella Fitzgerald, the Count Basie Orchestra, Rosemary Clooney, Monty Alexander, Ray Brown, the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Milt Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Mel Torme, John Pizzarelli, Benny Carter, Lalo Schifrin, Dr. John, Clark Terry, Gene Harris, Scott Hamilton, Harry "Sweets" Edison and Herb Ellis. Graham Dechter began his study of music at the age of 5. In 2005, he was invited by Jeff Hamilton to join the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra (CHJO). Graham has performed and recorded with Eliane Elias, Benny Golson, James Moody, Nancy Wilson, Benny Green, Paquito D'Rivera, Clark Terry, Snooky Young, Wynton Marsalis and many others. Graham perfectly rounds out this special trio.
